Announcement on Truth Social
Former President Donald Trump made a shocking announcement on Truth Social. Come Thursday, he’s voluntarily turning himself in at Fulton County Jail. Why? Charges spearheaded by District Attorney Fani Willis.
“I’ll be going to Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday to be ARRESTED by a Radical Left District Attorney, Fani Willis,” Trump stated emphatically.
In a tongue-in-cheek tone, he elaborated, “Not for ‘Murder,’ but for making a PERFECT PHONE CALL! She’s using this as a political tool. All of this is ELECTION INTERFERENCE in cahoots with Biden’s DOJ!”
Charges and Co-Defendants
According to the Aug. 14 indictment, Trump faces accusations of conspiring “to unlawfully change the election outcome in his favor.” The indictment ropes in several others, including former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani. In total, 19 are charged. On Monday, Trump’s legal team settled on a $200,000 bond for him.
Sheriff Pat Labat clarified that despite Trump’s former status, the booking process remains standard. “Everyone gets a mug shot,” Labat commented.
This isn’t Trump’s first brush with the law. Georgia’s charges mark the fourth set of indictments against him. He’s up against federal accusations connected to the 2020 election results, classified documents allegedly found on him, and a New York case over alleged hush money to Stormy Daniels. Cumulatively, Trump grapples with 91 charges spanning these cases.
Election Campaigning Amidst Turmoil
Intriguingly, Trump’s surrender comes a day post the initial Republican primary debate. While he’s the forerunner, Trump’s decided to sit this debate out.
