Terrifying Encounter: Florida Woman Dies From Brutal Alligator Attack During Routine Dog Walk

Date:

In a heart-wrenching and shocking incident, an 85-year-old woman lost her life while protecting her dog from a 10-foot alligator in Florida. The terrifying video footage, obtained by Inside Edition, captures the tragic moment when Gloria Serge was dragged underwater and killed by the vicious reptile in a lake outside Spanish Lakes Fairways, a retirement community in Fort Pierce.

Serge was standing with her leashed pet when the alligator surfaced nearby and began approaching her. The octogenarian quickly tried to move away, but the 700-pound monster was too fast. In a heroic effort to protect her beloved dog, she bravely confronted the alligator, but tragically, the beast overpowered her and dragged her underwater.

The video shows the horrific scene as Serge desperately tries to save her pet from the alligator’s massive jaws, but it was too late. The vicious attack resulted in the loss of her life, leaving her family and community in shock and mourning.

As the investigation continues, local authorities are reminding residents to exercise extreme caution when near bodies of water, especially during alligator mating season. This devastating incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers that can be present in even the most peaceful environments and the bravery and selflessness of those who will do anything to protect their loved ones, even if it means risking their own lives.

“There’s a woman in the lake! The alligator’s got her!”

A quiet afternoon stroll with her beloved dog turned into a horrifying nightmare for 85-year-old Gloria Serge, who was viciously attacked by a 10-foot-long alligator in Fort Pierce, Florida on Monday. Neighbor Carol Thomas recounted the harrowing incident, telling Inside Edition that she dialed 911 while attempting to rescue Serge. “There’s a woman in the lake! The alligator’s got her!” Thomas recalls telling the dispatcher. “I think she’s gone. Oh my God!” With a pole in hand, Thomas attempted to pull Serge to safety, but tragically, it was too late. “There is no way I could have gotten to her sooner,” she said. “It’s horrible for her family. It’s just horrible, horrible. And her friends, I spoke to a couple of her friends yesterday who are devastated.”

Alligator trapper Robert Lilly, who was called to capture the predator, described the intense struggle to subdue the massive reptile. “It was definitely a fight,” he said. “We snagged him on the bottom. He never surfaced. He stayed down the whole time.” The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by alligators and the importance of being vigilant while in their habitat.
