Olivia Munn and John Mulaney have welcomed their second child, announcing the joyful news on Sunday. Their daughter, born via surrogacy, comes as a beacon of hope following Munn’s breast cancer diagnosis last year.
Sharing the Surrogacy Journey
“Méi June Mulaney came into the world September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon,” Munn shared on social media, accompanied by heartwarming photos of their family at the hospital and at home with their newborn. Reflecting on her surrogacy experience, she added:
“I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter. When I first met our gestational surrogate we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel. Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for 9 months and made our dreams come true,” Munn expressed. “I am so proud of my little plum, my little dragon for making the journey to be with us. My heart has exploded.”
A Meaningful Name with Cultural Significance
As Munn explained, the baby girl’s name, pronounced like May, means “plum” in Chinese, further adding to the sentimentality surrounding her birth.
Mulaney’s Humor Shines Through
Mulaney shared his own excitement in a similar post on social media, unveiling photos of their newest addition and lightening the mood with his typical humor:
“We stole so much stuff from the hospital,” Mulaney wrote.
“I love my little girl so much.”
A New Chapter After Battling Cancer
The couple’s new chapter builds on the joy they experienced when they welcomed their first child, Malcolm, back in November 2021. However, this time, their celebration is particularly meaningful following Munn’s battle with breast cancer. Earlier this year, she revealed the diagnosis and detailed the surgeries she underwent, including a double mastectomy, hoping to raise awareness for others:
“I hope by sharing this it will help others find comfort, inspiration and support on their own journey,” Munn wrote back in April. Her candidness about her journey has since sparked conversations about breast cancer screening, particularly around risk assessment scores that many women might not be familiar with.
Love, Resilience, and the Beauty of Family
Olivia Munn and John Mulaney’s latest announcement resonates as an inspiring tale of love, resilience, and the beauty of family.
