Shocking Video Shows Dodgers Pitcher Julio Urías in Domestic Violence Incident Outside MLS Match

Date:

Newly released video footage from the California Highway Patrol captures the shocking incident involving former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías. The footage, filmed outside BMO Stadium after an LAFC soccer match, corroborates the domestic violence charges against the MLB star. Urías, who was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence, can be seen chasing after his wife, shoving her against a fence, and violently grabbing her hair and shoulders. Several bystanders are seen trying to intervene, adding to the intensity of the situation.

The video, obtained by the Los Angeles Times, surfaced months after Urías pleaded no contest to a domestic battery charge. The footage aligns with the criminal charges and the events that unfolded in September 2023.

Charges Reduced Despite Felony Arrest

Despite his arrest for suspicion of felony domestic violence, the District Attorney’s Office chose to charge Urías with misdemeanor domestic battery.

“Neither the Victim’s injuries nor the Defendant’s criminal history justify a felony filing,” the charging documents revealed.

Urías, who had previously faced a suspension for domestic violence in 2019, avoided jail time by pleading no contest to the domestic battery charge. In May, he was sentenced to 36 months probation and required to complete 30 days of community labor.

Legal Consequences and Requirements

Along with probation and community labor, the former Dodgers star was ordered to attend a 52-week domestic violence counseling program. Additional stipulations included paying a domestic violence fund fee, not possessing any weapons, abstaining from using any force or violence, compensating the victim, and abiding by a protective order.

Urías has since been placed on indefinite administrative leave by Major League Baseball following his arrest outside the MLS match.

A Troubled Past

This isn’t the first time Julio Urías has faced accusations of domestic violence. In 2019, he was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery, leading to a 20-game suspension from MLB. However, charges were not filed in that instance.

Urías, who spent eight seasons with the Dodgers, was a prominent figure on the team. In 2022, he finished third in the NL Cy Young Award voting, boasting a league-best 2.16 ERA. His success followed a stellar 2021 season, where he led the majors with 20 wins. Unfortunately, his 2023 performance faltered, and he ended the season with a 4.60 ERA over 21 starts for Los Angeles.

As a key player during the Dodgers’ 2020 World Series win, Urías’s fall from grace has sent shockwaves through the MLB and beyond.
