“Snow White” actress Gal Gadot returned to Israel on Sunday, stepping into Hostages Square in Tel Aviv to show solidarity with families whose loved ones remain in Hamas captivity.
The “Wonder Woman” star, who once served in the Israel Defense Forces, embraced relatives who have been living in anguish for nearly two years since the October 7, 2023, terror attack.
Her visit was timed with “Israel on Hold” day, a nationwide protest led by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, which is pressing the government to prioritize negotiations over the release of about 50 hostages. Nearly 20 of them are still believed to be alive.
Families Fear for Hostages’ Safety
While the country rallies for action, many families say they are more worried than ever. Israel’s recent approval of a major military campaign in Gaza, including a push to seize Gaza City, has sparked concerns that loved ones could be put at greater risk rather than brought home.
At the square, Gadot was photographed hugging Lishay Miran-Lavi, the wife of Omri Miran, who was kidnapped by Hamas gunmen from their home in Kibbutz Nahal Oz while his wife and two young daughters looked on.
The actress was also seen embracing Einav Zangauker, the mother of hostage Matan Zangauker, who was abducted with his girlfriend, Ilana Gritzewsky, during the brutal assault on Kibbutz Nir Oz. Einav has since become one of the most outspoken advocates for hostage families.
A Visit That Resonated
Gadot’s presence was more than symbolic. Families described her decision to sit, listen, and connect as deeply meaningful.
“We were deeply moved by Gal Gadot’s visit to Hostages Square today,” the Hostages and Missing Families Forum said in a statement.
“She chose to spend real time with us, sitting with the families and Hamas captivity survivors, listening with patience and empathy, and sharing in our pain. For families who have endured nearly two years of fear and uncertainty, her presence was a rare moment of comfort and strength.”
The group added, “This visit was one of many gestures and events taking place across the country today as part of the day of stoppage, and the love and support shown to the families has been overwhelming,” the organization added. “It reminded us that the hostages have not been forgotten, that their plight matters not only in Israel but around the world, and that we are not alone in this struggle. Gal’s compassion and solidarity are among the sources of strength that help us continue until all 50 hostages are returned.”
A Divisive Global Figure
Gadot has long been one of Israel’s most prominent cultural exports, and her global fame has given her a powerful platform. She has repeatedly used it to call attention to her homeland and the ongoing hostage crisis.
But that same visibility has come with backlash. According to the Jerusalem Post, the actress told Israel’s Channel Keshet 12 that Hollywood pressure “to speak out against Israel” contributed to the disappointing box-office results of her latest film, “Snow White.”
She reportedly argued that criticism of her outspoken support for Israel has spilled over into her career. Yet despite that, Gadot continues to bring worldwide attention to families who say they cannot afford to be forgotten.
