Tesla CEO Elon Musk has revealed a new self-driving vehicle, the Robotaxi, during an event in California, promising a revolutionary future for autonomous transportation.
“It’s going to be a glorious future,” Musk declared, hinting at a transformative era for how we travel.
A Bold Move Towards the Future
The unveiled Robotaxi is a two-seat car without a steering wheel or pedals. Tesla plans to launch this autonomous marvel by 2026 at a price point below $30,000, aiming to make cutting-edge technology accessible. Musk introduced the vehicle at Warner Bros. Studios, outside Los Angeles, stepping out of one and stating, “As you can see, I just arrived in Robotaxi, the Cybercab.”
Musk further added, “You see a lot of sci-fi movies where the future is dark and dismal, where it’s not a future you want to be in… We want to have a fun, exciting future that if you could look in a crystal ball and see the future, you’d be like, ‘yes, I wish I could be there now.’ That’s what we want.”
Autonomous Driving Made Accessible
The Robotaxi will operate using AI and cameras, and it will be powered by inductive charging, eliminating the need for traditional charging cables. “With autonomy, you get your time back,” Musk explained, emphasizing the broader lifestyle implications of autonomous driving technology.

Affordability and Efficiency: Tesla’s Goal
Musk believes that the cost of autonomous transport will be comparable to mass transit, offering individualized and economical rides. “I think the cost of autonomous transport will be so low that you can think of it like individualized mass transit. The average cost of a bus per mile for a city… is about a dollar a mile, whereas the cost of Cybercab, we think probably over time, the operating cost is probably going to be around $0.20 a mile,” Musk said.
A Glimpse Into Driverless Living
Musk also highlighted the unique experience Tesla’s driverless car will bring. “And, when you get in, you’ll see, like, it’s really quite a wild experience to just be in a car with no steering wheel, no pedals, no controls. And it feels great,” he remarked, underscoring how the Robotaxi is a sign of what cities could be like in the future.
Tesla’s Robotaxi is expected to hit the market for less than $30,000, offering an accessible price point for early adopters of autonomous technology.
Introducing the Tesla Robovan
In addition to the Robotaxi, Musk also introduced a new product, the Robovan. However, he shared limited details about this vehicle during the event. He teased the audience by stating, “Now can you imagine going down the streets and you see this coming towards you? That would be sick. So this can carry up to 20 people, and it can also transport goods.” While the Robovan’s release date remains undisclosed, it appears that Tesla envisions it serving multiple roles, from people transport to logistics.
The event provided an exciting glimpse into Tesla’s plans for revolutionizing both personal and group transportation, showcasing the potential of electric autonomy to reshape how cities function.
