Jen Psaki poured cold water on renewed Democratic demands to remove President Donald Trump through the 25th Amendment, arguing the effort is politically futile and distracting.
During a conversation with Stephen A. Smith on his show, “Straight Shooter,” Psaki suggested some voices on the left are spending energy on a path that simply will not materialize.
Psaki Questions Strategy Behind Removal Demands
Smith asked Psaki whether some on the left are so “fervently against the other side” that their opposition can appear “vitriolic.”
Psaki responded candidly.
“I think there are times, I think a lot of people on — and I can’t speak for everybody on the left, I don’t agree with everything everybody says on the left either — you know, sometimes it’s like not constructive,” Psaki said.
She then turned directly to the latest push against Trump.
“I mean, you’ve talked about the 25th Amendment. I have no issue with people saying they’re for invoking the 25th Amendment, but it’s not going to happen. So, it’s like why are we spending so much time, you know?”
Her remarks landed as a blunt reality check for activists and lawmakers pressing for dramatic action.
Bigger Tent Or Political Purity Test?
Psaki also argued Democrats need to focus less on internal policing and more on broadening their coalition if they want to win future elections.
“What is also true is that in order to win, you have to invite more people to the party,” she said. “So, if you want to win, you have to accept sometimes that there may be people who are part of your party or you’re going to welcome into the event or the conversation who you don’t agree with on 100% of issues. And I think sometimes there can be a little litmus-testy feeling about like who’s allowed to be a Democrat or who can consider themselves progressive.”
That message strikes at a familiar tension inside the party, ideological purity versus electoral pragmatism.
Warning Against Constant Outrage
Psaki also said nonstop anger toward every Trump move may not be an effective political strategy.
“And part of that goes hand-in-hand with like you have to scream at the top of your lungs about everything that comes out of the Trump administration,” she said. “And I’m outraged by a lot of it. But I don’t think screaming about every single thing is the most constructive thing.”
It was a notable admission from a prominent Democratic voice, especially as anti-Trump rhetoric intensifies.
Why The 25th Amendment Debate Returned
More than 50 Democratic lawmakers have reportedly urged Trump’s Cabinet to consider removing him under the 25th Amendment, claiming he is unfit to serve over recent comments tied to Iran.
The backlash followed a social media post in which Trump warned that a “whole civilization will die” unless Iran agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Some critics outside the Democratic Party have echoed calls for action. One former Republican lawmaker previously said she was “SO BEYOND DONE,” while describing Trump’s address as “WAR WAR WAR.”
Others have blasted critics of the president, saying they had “A LOT OF DAMN NERVE” in their attacks.
Senator Calls For Removal Or Impeachment
Sen. Andy Kim also weighed in with forceful criticism.
“I certainly think the president should be removed,” Sen. Andy Kim, D-N.J., said.
“I mean, he’s unfit for office. I think the 25th Amendment, and if not, then impeachment.”
Still, Psaki’s central point was clear. However loud the demands may be, she believes the outcome is already decided.
