Donald Trump is once again setting the stage for a fight over America’s voting system, vowing to eliminate both mail-in ballots and voting machines before the 2026 midterms.
In a fiery Truth Social post on Monday, Trump announced, “I am going to lead a movement to get rid of MAIL-IN BALLOTS” as well as “Seriously Controversial VOTING MACHINES.”
The former president said he intends to sign an executive order to reshape how elections are run. His claim? That the federal government has the authority to override states when it comes to how votes are counted.
“Remember, the States are merely an ‘agent’ for the Federal Government in counting and tabulating the votes. They must do what the Federal Government, as represented by the President of the United States, tells them, FOR THE GOOD OF OUR COUNTRY, to do,” Trump wrote.
A Familiar Rallying Cry
Trump has long railed against mail-in ballots, insisting they open the door to widespread fraud. He made clear that his latest push is all about what he calls restoring trust in America’s elections.
“ELECTIONS CAN NEVER BE HONEST WITH MAIL IN BALLOTS/VOTING, and everybody, IN PARTICULAR THE DEMOCRATS, KNOWS THIS. I, AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, WILL FIGHT LIKE HELL TO BRING HONESTY AND INTEGRITY BACK TO OUR ELECTIONS. THE MAIL-IN BALLOT HOAX, USING VOTING MACHINES THAT ARE A COMPLETE AND TOTAL DISASTER, MUST END, NOW!!!” Trump declared.
The message was unmistakable: he believes America’s democracy is at risk if sweeping changes are not made.
“REMEMBER, WITHOUT FAIR AND HONEST ELECTIONS, AND STRONG AND POWERFUL BORDERS, YOU DON’T HAVE EVEN A SEMBLANCE OF A COUNTRY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!!!” he added.
Greene Jumps Into The Fight
Trump’s call for drastic election reforms quickly drew backing from one of his closest Republican allies.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene voiced her full-throated support on X, saying, “I strongly support President Trump in ending mail in voting!! Elections have been stolen for decades with this practice that is ripe for fraud. Save America by saving our elections!!!”
The Bigger Picture
The push to end mail-in voting comes as both parties prepare for another high-stakes political battle in 2026. Trump, who has consistently claimed past elections were plagued by fraud, appears determined to make voting reforms a centerpiece of his post-presidency political agenda.
Whether he can legally force such changes through an executive order remains uncertain. But one thing is clear: Trump is betting that a war on mail-in ballots and voting machines will energize his base, keeping election integrity front and center in America’s political conversation.
