In a recent interview, former President Donald Trump revealed that Elon Musk could take an important role in a future Trump administration. Trump praised the billionaire entrepreneur’s business acumen and cost-cutting skills, hinting at a potential new position Musk might take on.
“He’s a great business guy, and he’s a great cost-cutter,” Trump stated during the exclusive interview on “Sunday Morning Futures.”
He added that Musk had remarked, “I could cut costs without affecting anybody.”
Bartiromo then asked if Musk would be part of Trump’s Cabinet if the former president were to return to office in January. He doesn’t want to be in the Cabinet,” he replied. “He just wants to be in charge of cost-cutting
A New Role for Musk?
Trump didn’t stop there. He elaborated that, while Musk may not seek a formal Cabinet position, there’s room for him in a different capacity. “We’ll have a new position: Secretary of Cost-Cutting. Elon wants to do that, and we have incredible people,” Trump said. “He’s running a big business. He can’t just say, ‘I think I’ll go into the Cabinet.’ Other people can. He can’t, but Elon’s a little bit different in that sense.”
This conversation sheds light on a possible future where Musk, known for his relentless focus on efficiency and innovation, might work alongside Trump to drive governmental cost reductions.
Space Ambitions and Musk’s Promise
Musk’s ambitions, however, extend far beyond cost-cutting. He has his sights set on outer space, and Trump has been quick to emphasize their shared goals. “He’s made me a promise to get to Mars before the end of my administration, which will be long before, hopefully, China or Russia,” Trump revealed.
Trump’s focus on space dominance isn’t new. In 2019, during his first term, he established the Space Force, a branch of the U.S. military designed to ensure American leadership in space. “It’s [Space Force is] now going to be one of our most important things. We were getting killed in space by China and by Russia, and now we’re leading in space,” Trump said confidently.
Musk’s First Campaign Appearance
Musk’s support for Trump has been public and vocal. Wearing a “Dark MAGA” hat and a t-shirt emblazoned with “Occupy Mars,” Musk made his first appearance at a Trump campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania. The location holds significant meaning for Trump, as he narrowly avoided an assassination attempt there just three months earlier on July 13.
At the rally, Musk issued a stark warning about the potential impact of a Kamala Harris presidency. “This is no ordinary election,” he claimed. “The other side wants to take away your freedom of speech.”
Campaigning for Trump
With less than a month left before Election Day, Musk’s role in the Trump campaign has only intensified. “He’s actually campaigning because he says, ‘If we don’t win, we’re not going to have a country,'” Trump shared during his interview with Bartiromo.
The stakes couldn’t be higher, according to Trump. “I think that we just have to win, and the only thing you can do is to win. These are bad people, and they’re surrounded by very bad people. I think they’re surrounded by much worse people than they are. Joe didn’t really know too much about where he was, and Kamala is worse than him.”
As the election draws near, Musk’s involvement in Trump’s campaign—whether through cost-cutting, space exploration, or stumping for votes in battleground states—signals an increasingly close alliance between the former president and the tech magnate. Whether Musk’s futuristic vision or Trump’s cost-cutting focus will resonate with voters remains to be seen.
