Spotify has announced the addition of an AI DJ feature for select users, utilizing cutting-edge technology to curate custom playlists for listeners. As of Wednesday, premium subscribers in the US and Canada have begun to receive access to this exciting new feature. Initially, the DJ will be available in beta and only in English, as stated in the official press release by Spotify.
According to the official statement by the company, the AI DJ feature will offer users a personalized selection of music accompanied by insightful commentary in a remarkably lifelike voice. The DJ’s music selections will be drawn from both new and previously played tracks. Additionally, the feature is designed to enhance its music recommendations with user feedback, allowing for a more personalized and enjoyable listening experience.
The AI DJ feature is a result of Spotify’s cutting-edge personalization technology and innovative generative AI, powered by the state-of-the-art OpenAI technology, as the audio streaming service stated. Additionally, Spotify mentioned their acquisition of Sonantic, an AI voice platform that creates incredibly realistic voices from text, further enabling the lifelike commentary accompanying the music selection.
The Head of Cultural Partnerships at Spotify, Xavier Jernigan, was the first voice model for the AI DJ, and the company has stated that they plan to continually iterate and innovate upon the feature.
