The global community has been put on high alert as North Korea test-fired four Hwasal-2 strategic cruise missiles in a bold demonstration of its military might. The launch was described by the state-run Korean Central News Agency as a display of the “war posture of the DPRK nuclear combat force.” The missiles, which were launched from Kim Chaek City, traveled over 1,200 miles before landing in the sea.
Coincidentally, U.S. and South Korean defense officials were holding a Deterrence Strategy Committee Table-Top Exercise at the Pentagon during the missile test, highlighting the growing tensions in the region and the importance of continued strategic planning.
North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un’s sister declared that they were using the Pacific as their firing range, just one day after launching the Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile.
