Hero FedEx Driver Foils Porch Pirate Attempt, Securing Hialeah Family’s Deliveries

A FedEx driver making his routine deliveries found himself in an unexpected situation when he stopped at a Hialeah home. As he approached the house, he noticed a man trailing closely behind him, raising immediate suspicion. The FedEx driver’s quick thinking and sharp instincts turned this ordinary delivery into a moment of action.

A Family Watches in Real-Time

The family inside the home, watching the scene unfold via their Ring camera, shared their experience with CBS News Miami. The son, choosing to remain anonymous, expressed both his initial concern and subsequent gratitude: “I was a little worried because my mom was in the house.”

Suspicious Encounter and Quick Action

The driver’s protective response added to the family’s sense of relief. As the son described, “In fact, I told her to get back inside and just pull the door. Thankfully, you know, we had this, hero,” highlighting the driver’s role in keeping his mother safe.

Driver Confronts the Stranger

In footage reviewed by CBS News Miami, the driver can be heard questioning the man: “Oh no, who are you?” The stranger’s reply was unclear, but the driver’s instincts sharpened. He asked the man to “open the door,” attempting to verify if he indeed lived there. When the stranger hesitated, the driver firmly declared, “I don’t believe you. I’m going to call the police.”

Neighborhood on Alert as Police Investigate

In response, Hialeah Police have assigned a detective to the case. Lt. 

“We want to identify him,” Hialeah Police Lt. Eddie Rodriguez said.

“We want to keep him on our radar. We’d like to talk to him just to see what was his plan.”

FedEx also praised their employee for his actions, stating, “We appreciate our courier’s quick actions to make sure the shipment was delivered to its intended recipient.”

A Strong Sense of Community

The sense of community in the Hialeah neighborhood was evident as the son discussed their shared vigilance against porch pirates. “This has been going on for a very long time,” the sonsaid. “We all look out for each other there. You know, it’s a very nice community. It bothered me because you’re stealing somebody else’s property, somebody’s harder money.”

Family Takes Additional Precautions

While police confirmed that no crime had been committed, the family is taking extra precautions, planning to install more security cameras around the home. The son shared that these measures aim to ensure his mother’s safety and protect future deliveries.
