Elon Musk, billionaire entrepreneur and tech visionary, made waves at the annual America First Policy Institute Gala held Thursday at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. His remarks hinted at significant changes to come as he prepares to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under President-elect Donald Trump.
“This won’t be business as usual. This is going to be a revolution,” Musk announced to the crowd.
As President Trump said, “what we need is common sense.”
Bold Leadership for a Streamlined Government
Musk’s appointment to DOGE, alongside former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, signals the administration’s intent to tackle inefficiency and corruption within federal operations. The department’s primary mission will be to address what Musk called “massive waste and fraud” embedded in the annual $6.5 trillion federal budget.
President Trump expressed confidence in Musk and Ramaswamy, emphasizing their shared commitment to accountability.
“Importantly, we will drive out the massive waste and fraud which exists throughout our annual $6.5 Trillion Dollars of Government Spending. They will work together to liberate our Economy, and make the U.S. Government accountable to ‘WE THE PEOPLE,'” Trump stated during the announcement of their appointments.
Restructuring for Results
Beyond cutting waste, the DOGE initiative is designed to overhaul how federal agencies operate, incorporating entrepreneurial principles to improve efficiency. The president-elect elaborated on their roles during a campaign rally, noting their expertise will help “dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies.”
Musk, well known as the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and owner of X, has already been an active presence in Trump’s campaign. His new role signifies an alignment of private-sector innovation with public-sector reform.
The collaboration extends beyond Musk’s technical expertise. Trump highlighted their strategic involvement: “advice and guidance from outside of Government, and will partner with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before.”
