Tragedy Strikes: Three Family Members Killed by Amtrak Train Near Philadelphia

Date:

In a heartbreaking incident outside Philadelphia, three family members lost their lives after being struck by an Amtrak train on Thursday. According to Bristol Borough Police Chief Joe Moors, “three adults were killed by an Amtrak train traveling from Boston, Massachusetts, to Richmond, Virginia.” He later confirmed that all victims were related.

The fatal crash occurred in Bucks County, where emergency crews responded to reports of individuals on the tracks just before 6 p.m.

“An officer was walking toward the people at about 6:10 p.m.,” said Chief Moors.

“The train hit and killed them.” Investigators told that the victims “heard the train and could not get off the tracks in time.” Tragically, all three were hit simultaneously.

There were no reported injuries among the 236 passengers or crew members aboard the train. Thankfully, no officers were harmed in the crash either.

Investigation Underway by Amtrak Police

Amtrak is now collaborating closely with local law enforcement. “Amtrak is working with the Bristol Borough Police Department to investigate the incident,” an Amtrak spokesperson told. According to the statement, Amtrak Police are leading the investigation into the tragic event.

At this time, the names of the three adults killed have not been publicly released.

Another Tragedy in the Same County Just One Day Earlier

The Bucks County tragedy followed another fatal incident involving an Amtrak train just one day prior. On Wednesday, a separate individual died near Cornwells Heights Station after being hit by a train, again disrupting travel in all directions for approximately an hour.

“Amtrak is working with the Bensalem Police Department to investigate,” officials said, confirming there were no injuries to the 232 passengers or crew members on that train.

Train Service Temporarily Suspended as Investigations Continue

In a travel advisory issued after Thursday’s deadly crash, Amtrak halted all rail traffic scheduled to depart New York and Philadelphia. “We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide an update as details become available,” the advisory stated. “We appreciate your patience.”

Train operations resumed by 11 p.m. Thursday, once authorities completed their initial on-site investigation into the Bucks County incident.
